Conducting Research And Educating Communities About Unconditional Loving-Kindness
Loving-kindness is a universal value

MettāVerses

In an increasingly polarised world, loneliness and isolation are becoming silent epidemics. Studies show that one in three adults worldwide now experiences loneliness regularly, with young people among the most affected despite being the most digitally connected. Social fragmentation, political division, and the overuse of impersonal technologies have left many feeling isolated and unseen. As AI assistants and social media platforms attempt to fill the gap, they often deepen it; offering connection without intimacy, information without wisdom, and interaction without true presence.
MettāVerses was born in response to this crisis, not to replace technology, but to guide its use with intention and compassion. Unlike many online spaces shaped by competition, outrage, or negativity-focused algorithms, MettāVerses fosters wholesome, heart-centred connections rooted in metta, or loving-kindness. We are community dedicated to mutual care, spiritual practice, and meaningful human interaction. While not all communities are beneficial—some amplify fear, hate, or disconnection—MettāVerses invites us to co-create spaces and relationships that nourish the heart and awaken our shared humanity.
What is mettā? Mettā (Pali) or maitrī (Sanskrit) is often translated as “unconditional loving kindness” or simply “kindness.” It is the gentle and friendly wish that others be well and do what needs to be done to find such wellbeing. In the Mettā Sutra, the Buddha instructs his monastics (monks and nuns) to meditate on loving kindness for all living beings to be safe and happy. Mettā as a practice begins with wishing for happiness for oneself, and then extends that wish to others. In other contexts, mettā is one of the factors that motivates the bodhisattva to save all beings from suffering.
