Welcome to
MettāVerses

  • About Us

Welcome to MettāVerses, an applied research hub dedicated to advancing the life-changing practice of loving-kindness (mettā) in education and society. The project is led by Dr. Juewei Shi and inspired by the teachings of Venerable Master Hsing Yun, whose famous one-stroke calligraphy featured here illuminates that "The fragrance of unconditional loving-kindness pervades the ten directions".

  • What is mettā?

Mettā (Pali) or maitrī (Sanskrit) means “unconditional loving-kindness.” Rooted in Buddhist tradition, mettā is the genuine wish for all beings to be safe, happy, and well. Practicing mettā fosters resilience and wellbeing, motivating individuals and communities toward compassion, mutual support, and positive action.

  • Our Purpose

In response to global challenges like climate change, social isolation, inequality, and mental health crises, MettāVerses serves as a catalyst for research-driven solutions. By connecting educators, scholars, students, and partner organisations, we aim to integrate loving-kindness into research, teaching, and institutions.
